I've taken for some months and I really don't think it's addictive. Maybe some people get addicted to the losing weight thing, but because they want to lose more weight, not because Phentermine makes you dependent.

I've taken for 8 weeks in a row, stopped for a week or so, and didn't really feel the need to take it during this week.

As you know phentermine is always prescribed for a short period of time. It’s best when you take this drug for 6-12 weeks and not longer. Phentermine weight loss effect decreases after a while. If you think that your prescribed dosage is not working properly DO NOT increase it on your own. This can eventually cause drug addiction and lead to severe side effects. Don’t risk your health. Talk to your doctor who might either change your dosage or take you off of phentermine for a while. You never know, maybe your body tolerance level for this drug needs to get back down.

It’s important to combine phentermine treatment with exercise and a proper diet program. It’s also important to carefully follow all medicine directions given to you by your doctor. Don’t take more of phentermine that your prescription allows you to. If larger doses are taken, phentermine can become habit-forming and lead to a drug addiction.

The Food and Drug Administration has put phentermine in Schedule IV controlled substance. This means that this medication has a minimal abuse danger. To make it clear for you I can add that Schedule I has the highest abuse liability and V has the lowest. All potentially addictive medications have similar components. They develop tolerance to the drug and lessen its effect. I have mentioned before that phentermine’s appetite suppressant effect decreases with time.

Most of the patients who used phentermine to lose weight say it doesn’t develop cravings or euphoric effect. Those who stopped taking it abruptly experienced only some of rebound hunger. No severe symptoms of addiction were observed. Still it’s better to keep in mind that phentermine addiction can be still a possibility.

Another concern is that phentermine can develop psychological dependence. It can make patients use this drug in order to form good health habits. Sometimes patients view this medication as a form of a crutch. In this case you really need to get medical help.

Default Phentermine and Methamphetamine

Many people wonder if phentermine and methamphetamine have anything in common. These medications indeed are rather similar and different at the same time. It’s important to understand that both phentermine and methamphetamine (known as meth) have alike chemical properties with amphetamine. However methamphetamine is much stronger. This drug can cause addiction. On one side it can easily lead to abuse and dependence because of its amphetamine’s stimulant effect. On the other side it can suppress your appetite. Phentermine also lows down your appetite. Its stimulant properties are reflected in raising your heart rhythm and blood pressure. You might know that phentermine shows great weight loss results only during the first few weeks of its usage. After a while its appetite suppressing effect decreases.
